Alone
I’ve always thought of myself as a loner. I’ve found it easy to pass the time by myself, either reading or watching TV or finding some other way to entertain myself. As a shy introvert, it was easy to follow this lifestyle. However, this isn’t a shy introvert’s world. Beyond the societal expectation for people to socialize and frequently interact with other people, we as Homo sapien sapiensvery much needsocial interaction just to be able to function properly. Without it, we move towards a state of depression and hopelessness.
It’s not surprising then that as the world becomes increasingly individualistic and the communities that peopleused to rely on dry up in favor of electronic communities, people are feeling more alone than ever before. When staying at home holds the entire wealth of human knowledge, an endless selection of movies and TV shows, and all of the music you could ever listen to, the fact that we ever leave home seems like such an inconvenience. For a lot of people, the inertia of home and the inherent complexity of making friends keeps them from ever actually finding people they feel close to.
As I fall into a more traditional work schedule during my internship, I realize that the days aren’t as long as I thought they were and agreeing to get dinner with someone is enough to take up an entire night. Whereas staying solo would entail a night combining food, exercise, reading and creative projects, a night with friends leaves you with something harder to describe. Over the last few days, I’ve alternated my social and solo days, attempting to find a balance. I really don’t know how to go about it but I think I’m starting to find my rhythm.

Article
“Anthony Bourdain and the Power of Telling the Truth” by Helen Rosner- RIP to Anthony Bourdain. I was never an active consumer of his work, but he always seemed like a good one. This is a great piece on him.
Movie
Upgrade - I really enjoyed this sci-fi flick. Great cinematography, great production design, fun watch overall.
Playlist
Groove 2018- this is the playlist of some random barista that was playing some really good music on Sunday. I enjoyed it so much that I asked him what it was called and spent some time combing Spotify search results to find it.
